Welcome to the Bayou! Louisiana officially welcomed us to our new home with a Labor Day hurricane. For a little over a week before the storm hit we were being told repeatedly to prepare for what could be "the mother of all hurricanes". Okay, a few important things to remember at this point:
1. We are from IOWA
2. There are NO hurricanes in IOWA
3. Did I mention we are from IOWA!!!
So, following repeated instructions of what we may need and Tyson talking to a number of people at work we started to gather hurricane essentials. Now, remember this is a week in advance. Plenty of time, right?! NO!!! In all of Target, Wal-Mart, Lowes, Walgreens, a number of grocery stores there are NO as in ZERO C or D sized batteries and about 4 loaves of bread on the shelves! I have NEVER seen anything like it. Literally nothing on shelves. Oh, and did I forget to mention that we've been warned a million times that there will probably be no power for at a minimum of three days??? So with a one year old we decide that milk is a must...but, in order to keep milk cold we will be needing the all important ICE! Now, who would ever think frozen water would be in such high demand!!! Again after searching and lots of praying Tyson found 4 bags of ice shoved up in the top of an ice box that no one else had seen. Mission accomplished...PRAISE THE LORD!!!

After watching the news religiously for a week Monday morning we anxiously awaited the "unknown". Gustav made landfall at 9:30am. We lost power at 12:10pm. Power was restored in the early afternoon September 8th. Thanks to all who kept our little family in your prayers as we know there were many of you! There are no words to describe it and pictures/videos don't do it justice, but here are the best of what we were able to capture at the beginning of the storm.
